The Tennessee Valley Fair is coming, September 6-15!  Whether it’s your first time or you’re a seasoned fairgoer, there is something magical about spending time with your family at the Fair.  Whether it’s the sweet smell of a freshly fried funnel cake, the roar of rides in the Midway or the occasional “moo” or “cock-a-doodle doo” from the livestock barns, there’s so much to see and do at the Fair each year.

But like most events and festivals, taking the entire family can get pricey.   Here are some exclusive money saving tips and tricks for enjoying the Tennessee Valley Fair without emptying your wallet:

  • Advance Ticket Sale
From June 6 – August 31, take advantage of deep discounts through the Fair’s Advance Ticket Sale.  Save $10-20 by purchasing a Family Fun Pack (Includes 4 admissions and parking) ride wristbands as low as $14 (regularly $20-$25) and more.   Overall savings is 20% or more.  See all the deals here.
  • $1.00 Opening Day Special
Enjoy the Tennessee Valley Fair for $1?!  Really?  Yes ma’am.  In celebration of the Fair’s 94th year, fairgoers can enter the Fairgrounds on Friday, September 6 for only $1! Discount begins at 3:00 p.m. and ends promptly at 4:34 p.m, so arrive early.
  • $3.00 Guidebook Coupon
New in 2013, the Fair is offering $3 off an adult admission (adult = 12 years and older) Monday, September 9 through Thursday, September 12.  This is an excellent time to bring the family.  It’s less crowded, fewer lines and if you love country music, they have concerts every night at 8:00 pm Sept 9-12.  You can find this coupon in the back of the 2013 Tennessee Valley Fair Guidebook (available around Knoxville beginning August 5) or in the Knoxville News Sentinel and Metropulse the week of September 9.
  • Discount Days
Free day for Students?  Check.  Free day for Senior Citizens? Check.  Free day for military, police, firefighters, nurses & more. Double check!  The Fair offers Discount Days galore.   Click here to see the full list and pick the day that’s best for your family.
  • Penny 4 Arts
Did you know? The Tennessee Valley Fair partners with the Arts & Cultural Alliance of Greater Knoxville to offer FREE admission to all Knox County students participating in the Penny4Arts program.  If your family is not taking advantage of the Penny4Arts program, definitely take a moment to check it out.  Penny Performances give every child in Knox County, including home-schooled and private-schooled students, an opportunity to attend arts and culture events/activities at the maximum cost of ONE PENNY when accompanied by an adult during the academic school year.  The Fair offers its Penny Performance Day on Tuesday, September 10.

  • 1,200 Free Seats at Every Concert
One of the best kept secrets at the Fair – there are 1,200 FREE seats available to every concert.  And we mean EVERY concert.  There is literally nowhere else in Knoxville where you can see Charlie Daniels, Loverboy, Lee Brice, Randy Houser or Tone Loc & Young MC for less than $10.
The best deal?  Come on Opening Night – Friday, September 6 between 3:00 pm – 4:34 pm and receive $1 admission.  Then, snag a free seat and see Loverboy for only a buck!
  • Fair Food – Shop Around
It is no secret that eating out can get expensive.  Prices only seem to rise at theme parks and special events.  What many fairgoers don’t realize is that food prices at the Fair can differ greatly.  Each vendor is responsible for setting their own prices, so shop around.  We’ve seen funnel cakes as high as $8 and as cheap as $4, so it pays to scope out prices before you order.  The best fair food deals?  Check out Fairview United Methodist’s booth at the bottom of the Jacob Building stairs for $1.00 hand dipped candy apples.  Or grab a delicious egg roll from Philippine Connection’s booth for only $1.00. Yum!
  • Knoxville Zoo Membership – $2.00 Off
Are you a Knoxville Zoo member?  Present your Zoo card and automatically receive $2.00 off an adult admission at the Fair.  Good any day, September 6-15.
  • A Fair Value
The Tennessee Valley Fair offers dozens of exciting, fun and educational attractions absolutely free with your fair admission:

– Ponderosa Safari Zoo & Barnyard Animals
– Thank-A-Farmer Magic Show
– Anastasini Circus
– Marvelous Mutts Canine Spectacular
