Coker Family Needs

Thank you to Knoxville News Sentinel for allowing the family to share the story of Kristin Coker.
It has been simply amazing to watch the community come around and just love on the Coker family over the last 3 weeks. The family is just amazed and so so thankful to everyone and their generosity.

Let me just brag on all of you. After hearing of Kristin's death I put out an SOS on my website, by emailing friends, posting the story on Facebook and such. Within 12 hours I had the back of minivan almost filled with diapers, wipes, bottles, formula, and other baby items. Since then a non-profit has committed to providing diapers for 1 year and I think they are close to at least 6 months of Enfamil formula if not more. Which is a great start and burden lifted off of them. Then there was the baby clothing and baby items that people have given over the last 2 weeks. You all are so awesome. Thank you just does not seem like enough.

They are still navigating through all their emotions and just figuring out what life and normal looks like. I have committed myself and my time to helping them by communicating their needs to the community. I know so many care and are touched by their story and I count it an honor to serve them and organize all this on their behalf.

Current Needs:

First and foremost they need prayer. Please be in prayer for this family and all they have been through the last month.

-Dan Coker needs prayer as he grieves the loss of his best friend and wife.

-For Evelyn and John Coker (Dan's parents) who are taking care of Ruby full time while Dan heals and grieves. They need energy, rest and stamina.

-For Jeremiah (Kristin's 6 1/2 year old son) to be comforted and for him to be loved on and supported in this time. That he would excel in school and get the help he needs.

-For family, friends and churches to support, love and encourage Dan.

Does anyone have any contacts to a manager or someone in the corporate office at any of these restaurants?

Helping the Coker Family

Thank you to WBIR and Beth Haynes for allowing us to share the story of Kristin Coker.

It has been simply amazing to watch the community come around and just love on the Coker family over the last 2 weeks. The family is just amazed and so so thankful to everyone and their generosity.

Email About Being Frugal

I received this email over the weekend and it really encouraged me to think about my own frugality and how others are know thinking about thier own frugality. I hope it encourges you and makes you think a little.

Dear Melissa,

I am sorry that I waited until the "day of" to let you know if i was coming or not to Chick fill A, but I just couldn't decide. After having watched Good Morning America this morning and watching the segment on rising gas prices and how owning a suburban was not a good idea if you wanted to conserve money... I have decided that I CAN'T come this afternoon. :( Being that your blog is totally about being frugal, I know that you will understand my reasoning's for not coming. I live in East Knoxville and have no reason to go to West Knoxville today - other than coming to Chick fil A , I drive a suburban and my mind can't get off the fact that I would spend more money driving out there to get a milkshake than I would if i just bought one. ;) Thank you for allowing me to be a winner. I have never won anything before, so just the idea that I was a winner was exciting. :) I really would have liked to come. Being that I don't buy milkshakes (I only get them if I have a free coupon from the calendars), it was very tempting to come get a FREE one. As a stay at home mom of four kids, I constantly watch our money, so therefore I have decided that I am choosing today to be FRUGAL. :)

Healthy Living Expo: January 21 & 22

The seventh annual Healthy Living Expo, presented by WBIR-TV and Star 102.1 FM, will be held Friday and Saturday, January 21 and 22, 2011 at the Knoxville Convention Center. Coker Family Update-1/20/11

Here is the latest update on the Coker family and some sweet pictures of Miss Ruby.

These precious pictures of Ruby were taken by jon Spot photography over the weekend and this one is one of my favorites. Go HERE to see more.

They are beautiful and absolutely breath taking.

Sweet Ruby turned 4 weeks old yesterday. (Look at her peaceful smile) She got this Lamb from Trinity UMC. These lambs are prayed over and passed around to be blessed then delivered to families in the community who need blessing and love. This little lamb sits above her bassinet. How fitting.

Miss Ruby and me. She is just so precious and so cuddly. She has the calmest temperament hardly cries.

It has been 2 weeks since the tragic death of Kristin Coker. The outpouring of love this family has felt from all you of that have prayed, wrote a card of encouragement and sympathy, sent a gift, bought items off their baby registry at Babies R Us, bought diapers, formula, baby wash, bottles, donated clothing and other baby items has been AWESOME!! I had the honor to sit and talk with the family yesterday and it was just incredible to hear how far these gifts have come. All over the country from CA to TX to MI to NC. It was great to see all that has has been given so generously and sent to them. They say a very BIG THANK YOU to everyone. A TV interview as well as an article in the newspaper will be aired and published we believe next week sharing more of their story. Which will be a great honor to Kristin and her life.

Frugal Birthday

We had my son's 6th birthday party Saturday. We celebrated 2 weeks early but there was a reason. We had 30 kids at his party. So I knew I had to find a place that was VERY affordable. This is hard to come by especially in the winter cold. Well, 2 weeks ago I found out that on 1/15 there was going to be be free or reduced museum admission due to Bill Haslam becoming Governor. I got an idea what if we go to the Children's Museum of Oak Ridge. It was one of the featured museums. So we went and the kids LOVED it. After we played we all went over to the Chick-Fil-A Oak Ridge for snacks and cupcakes.

All I paid for was the food which consisted of a Nugget Party platter from Chick-Fil-A, bag of chips, a juice box and cupcakes for the kids. I had the whole party for less then $45. Not to bad.

Chick-Fil-A was awesome they had balloons for each child and a coloring page and the Cow even came out to wish my son Happy Birthday as well as hang out with the kids and take pictures.

The kids had a great time and the parents commented that the party was fun and enjoyable.

People ask me why I don't post certain freebies or deals well here is the answer, I don't stand for soda, junk food, candy and porn so it won't be on my site.

There are some freebies I come across a lot but I will not put my name or brand on them.

I am not a perfect eater. But I stand for good health and nutrition overall. A free soda from Pilot and a free Butterfinger...Not so much!

Also I no longer can support or buy off Amazon because they sell porn and how to guides for pedophiles. They are putting small businesses like Christian book stores out of business because of their business practices.
