Second Harvest NEEDS HELP

According to officials with the organization, Second Harvest will be closed for the rest of the week. Flood water damaged all of their goods. Food banks will not get their deliveries this week. This is truly a tragedy since they help so many in the Knoxville area.

I know I have AWESOME fans and I am making a call to all of YOU. I know so many of us stockpile and have some extras that we could donate. So I am asking go through your pantry and help Second Harvest replenish.

Email me (frugalissafinds@gmail.com) and I will get in contact with you in how to get items to them. I am getting in contact with Second Harvest officials asking how best to help them out. If you want to make a monetary donation GO HERE It's easy to donate and help.

Saving Money on Items for Babies and Children

The Second Annual Knoxville Coupon Fair was huge sucess. There was an AMAZING turn out. I heard about 600 people came.

Thanks to Gabrielle Blake of Couponing in Critical Times for all the hard work she put it into organizing the event and Faith UMC for hosting. Also thank you to Rita's Italian Ice for coupons and giving away Italian Ice. Thank you to Chick-fil-A Double Drive Thru for the coupons and catering giveaway and Women's Today for the tickets.

Here is the info I shared on Saving Money on Items for Babies and Children today .

Homemade Baby Wipes Recipe
Viva Paper Towel cut in half. Save other half for next time
2 cups warm water
1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
1 teaspoon Baby Wash
6 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil
6 drops Lavender Essential Oil

Put Viva Paper Towel in a tall or wide plastic container with a lid.

Mix the above items together in a liquid measuring cup then pour over paper towels. Put lid on and shake then remove cardboard core. Let sit for a few minutes before using to absorb liquid.

Making your own baby food
I used Super Baby Food by Ruth Yaron for ideas and recipes also online at www.superbabyfood.com/ and www.wholesomebabyfood.com/

Making your own food is very economical and the health and nutritional benefits are higher too.

Cloth diapering
This can save you over $1500-$2000 over each child’s life. An investment of maybe $200 on diapers and supplies and most times diapers can be reused on the next child or sold after a child is potty trained.

I use Sneaky Chef by Missy Lapine. I have a lot of recipes and healthy snack options on my website http://www.frugalissafinds.com/ under recipes or email me at if you have any questions.

Consignment Sale Shopping and Selling
This is a great way to sell outgrown clothing and toys as well as buying for your child’s current needs at ½-3/4 off retail prices.

A list of consignment sales can be found on my website. They start normally in March- May for the Spring/Summer and August-October for Fall/Winter. I will highlight the sales each week once they start.

End of Season Clearance Shopping
January and July are the greatest times to score deals on clothing for kids, as well as toys. It is always wise to scan the clearance racks at other times of the year too. I try and scan the racks and end caps if I have time when I shop on a weekly or monthly basis. My kids' wardrobe is always purchased a year in advance and I save a lot of money that way. I try and wait to buy clearance when it goes 75% off or when Old Navy gives an additional 50% off marked clearance prices. This is when I get stuff for no more then $2-3 per clothing item.

Also try doing a clothing/toy items swap with friends or family who have kids around the same age.

Birthday Parties
Go with solid color plates and use the themed napkins. Try to keep the decorations simple but use themed accents so you don’t end up spending a lot of money.

Think outside the box. Having a party at home or a park cost nothing. I just did a Fire Station tour for an activity for my son’s birthday and it cost nothing.

Try and do the party mid morning or afternoon to avoid having to serve a full meal. I always try to do it then so then I can serve snacks and cake.

Party treat bag-My new favorite goody bag item is dipped pretzel sticks it hardly costs anything. I just made these for my son’s party and all it cost was a bag of pretzels and dipping chocolates. The parents and kids love them. There is no junky toys to keep up with and no unhealthy candy either.

I'm Back!!!

I'm back from my husband's grandmother's funeral. We drove out of state for the service and to spend time with family. What a whirlwind of driving. 16+ hours both ways. But we are home safe now. Laundry is getting done and life is getting back to normal again and it is now back to the grind.

I am so thankful for every one's understanding my absence and not for posting over the last few days. I had limited Internet coverage and where we were it was rural. They don't really have Internet in their homes. Can you believe it. I was totally taken back by that. I was going through severe withdrawals, HA!!! I added Internet to my phone to check email and check Facebook. But could not post much on a screen a few inches big, HA!!! I even tried going to a fast food restaurant with wifi to use my mother in law's laptop since mine still has a broken screen. But could not get on for some reason. I tried!!!

I was also very thankful for some of you who sent such kind emails and sympathy. Thank you so much.

Death in the Family

My husband's grandmother passed away Tuesday afternoon. She was going to be 79 next week. Please bear with me if I don't post much over the next few days. My focus is on that and dealing with it all. Thanks for your understanding.

Doors open one hour before the show for an All Access Pre-Show!
Pre-Show is available to ALL ticket holders. During the FREE All Access Pre-show, audience members have the opportunity to mingle with performers, take pictures, get autographs and get a taste of the circus before the show even begins!
