Meat- To save money on meat for 4th of July grilling you will want to plan ahead. Check the weekly grocery store sales ads for sales and specials on hamburger, steak, hot dogs or whatever meat you may be serving. Remember, plan your menu around what’s on sale. Buy enough meat for the 4th of July party at the lowest sale price and freeze it until the party if you need to. Sam’s Club has great meat prices and you can buy ground beef in bulk (you can always freeze what you don’t eat)
Drinks- Skip the individual juice boxes and soda cans by buying two-liter bottles of soda and gallon bottles of juice to make it more cost effective. But if you don’t feel like splurging on the carbonated stuff, get a Coleman 10-gallon cooler with an instant on/off faucet and fill the cooler with ice cold lemonade or iced tea.
Fruit Salad-Forget about fancy prepared salads you can buy at the store. Simply cut up strawberries, watermelon, cantaloupe, kiwi, add some fresh blueberries and any other fruit, then mix all the ingredients for an attractive, yet easy-to-make fruit salad.
Dessert-Cookies, cake, brownies or even cut watermelon make for a great dessert. All can be made real quickly.
Entertainment-Bring out those old-fashioned games from the closet. If kids are present, pull out the Slip ‘n Slide or let them play in the sprinkler with squirt guns or water balloon.
Remember, keep the party simple. Buy paper plates in bulk and use disposable table cloths so clean up is easy and all you have to worry about is having a good time.
